Last week was a very sad week. I lost another friend and colleague to this damn disease at 50 years young. Just bloody wrong. Laura had worked with me in my company since she was 21 years old and was like a part of our family.
Four other friends are in various stages of cancer treatment with good and bad prognosis. I am sick and tired of the loss we all feel when our friends and families are impacted by Cancer.
I am one of the lucky ones. I was diagnosed in November with colon cancer after a routine Colonoscopy; had surgery in December and started chemo in February. I should be done by May and then just ongoing monitoring. Every step of the way and every individual working on my case have been amazing; from the surgical team, recovery team and now within the system at the Surrey Cancer Agency.
Our teammate and all around great guy, Kevin Murphy, has been an enormous help and advisor to me personally. Much gratitude to he and his associates over the years in building the Surrey Cancer Agency into the superb center of care that it is! Thank you Kevin.
I have been involved in raising funds for Cancer Research for nearly fifteen years and with R2S since 2017. My own cancer journey and more importantly those of my friends has me highly motivated to raise a ton of dough towards better outcomes in fighting this effing beast!
Here is my ask!
Ride with us and/or donate and raise some funds for our cause!!
Ride with us on September 23rd on the third annual Dexter 'Ride2Survive' Challenge in Ladner. This is a fun, bring what you ride, 40 Km loop that some will do once, others up to five times for 200 Km.
Road bikes, mountain bikes, ebikes, tricycles whatever!! The goal is to raise money not to just ride a bike!
This route was very popular last year as it passes Barnside Brewing and hits some of the best roads South Delta has to offer on an easy paced jaunt through the farmlands. Those that do one or two loops can enjoy a beer and munchies while they cheer on the others trying for a little more distance!
There will be more details to follow but our donation site is up on the R2S website and ready to accept your generosity and donations from your own network.
Let's get back at it together and make a difference in others cancer outcomes.
Let's encourage everyone to be proactive with their own health and get screened. It is so easy to do and makes such a difference. Trust me, I know!
