2020 and now 2021 has taken its toll on all of us. The new "covid normal" is far from what we all want to call normal!
For the Ride2Survive team, this is also true. What started as a ride that became a fund raiser… it moved into being a "community of like-minded folks" and finally landed on a "family". The problem now is that our R2S family, like our regular family, can't get together to share laughs, tears, encouragement, hugs, food, rides, stories, suffering, hard work and, just plain, time.
For 2020, just like the original R2S in 2005, a bunch of crazy individuals organized small events to raise money for the Ride2Survive and their success was outstanding, raising over $170,000. The problem is, we need to raise much more to keep cancer research going. On a per-person basis, our fundraising in 2020 was about the same as it has been when we raised $1M in 2019. The difference was the number of people raising money.
We already have some folks committed to running 2021 events, But…
- How do we motivate ourselves and help each other to get out there and do an event, of our own making, for the cause?
- How do we share ideas and encouragement that tells us all that, just like the big ride, "yes you can do it"?
- How do we bring our family together now, under these circumstances, until we can again share a hug and a ride?
If you have any ideas to share, please comment below... and/or send me an email.
If you already have an event in the back of your mind... Let us know so we can tell the rest of the team... that is one of the best ways to encourage others to jump in!
Thanks, Kerry.
